Please join our POETRY POWER SLAM event hosted by Westborough High School Poetry Club

Everyone is welcome to attend this special poetry event. Anyone wishing to share a poem must follow the participation requirements and register using this  LINK

Participation Requirements:

Those who wish to participate in the SLAM event must create, memorize and perform original poems. Stories, commentary, or speeches are not considered poetry for a SLAM event.

Poems must be original. Each poem should be a maximum of three minutes. There is no minimum time. No props, costumes, or musical instruments. Group poems are welcome.

Although this slam is not a competition, in the spirit of SLAM, the poet will receive scores out of 10 from 5 randomly selected judges. The high and low scores are dropped and the middle three are added together, giving the poet a total score out of 30.

Some words on WORDS - The following has been borrowed from Rooted and Radical Youth Poetry Festival and Mass Poetry, and will pertain to this event: “We are first and foremost a community space. In this spirit we limit the language in our slam, not because we believe in censorship, but rather so that we can provide access to the widest audience of poets. There are a number of words that we feel can be used either to challenge structures of intolerance or conversely, to attack members of particular groups and destroy safe space.”

Hate speech will not be tolerated. Participants who use any hate speech will be removed from participation in the Slam event.
