A Nervous System Approach to Trauma and Wellness: Learning about Mental Health

This comprehensive training will explore the fundamental relationship between the nervous system and behaviors of stress, trauma, and wellness. You will come to understand how your nervous system responds to cues of safety and danger, how these responses color the ways you perceive, interpret, and interact with your environment, as well as how these responses impact development and health outcomes across the lifespan. Lastly, you will learn how to engage in trauma-informed and responsive care, helping to buffer against trauma in yourself and your community.

Susanne Bahnan is a Community and School Outreach Coordinator with District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.’s Office. Susanne works to disseminate trauma-informed and responsive care through the scientific lens of the human nervous system. Her training is a critical piece in establishing the Worcester County Alliance for Drug Endangered Children (DEC) and implementing the Handle With Care (HWC) initiative throughout the county. Susanne has a Master of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Hartford, and a Master of Arts in Psychology in Education through Teachers College, Columbia University. In addition to her work in the DA’s Office, Susanne is a certified Trauma Coach, HeartMath Coach, and Embodied Meditation Coach, and has worked in fields including stress and wellness research, social emotional learning, and clinical Neurofeedback.
